ONE NIGHT ONLY!

ARIA, Logie and Helpmann award winning singer and conductor of the ‘choir that stole the Nation’s heart’ in 2007 - the Choir of Hard Knocks, is performing at the Mildura Arts Centre for the first time on Wed June 22, 2022 at 7.30pm in his new show A Hard Knock Life, that will also showcase performers from the 2022 Mildura Eisteddfod as his special guests!

This concert will also culminate after a week of Jonathon adjudicating the vocal and choral sections of the 2022 Mildura Eisteddfod, where he will also chose several contestants to share the stage and showcase some of the wonderful local talent as well.

Considered one of the finest Australian tenors of his generation, Welch made his debut at Opera Australia in 1988 with Dame Joan Sutherland in the Merry Widow, and has since performed extensively in some of the world’s finest venues with the greatest singers, conductors and directors including K.D. Lang, Baz Luhrmann, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and Richard Bonynge, to name a few.

But it is Jonathon’s television work that brought him to great public prominence and acclaim with the ABC TV smash hit series the Choir of Hard Knocks, followed by Jailbirds, also appearing as a Judge on Channel 7s Battle of the Choirs in addition to his recent performance on The Voice 2020.

A Hard Knock Life, is a nostalgic celebration of beautiful music that Jonathon will thread through the stories of how he began his unique and diverse music career, eventually leading him to be awarded Australian of the Year, Local Hero 2008, and an Order of Australia in 2009 for his outstanding services to youth music education and the homeless and disadvantaged.

From great tenor classics like Granada, The Road to Gundagai and bless this House to exciting music theatre and popular music hits including On the Street Where You Live, This Is the Moment and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah! - There is really something to suit everyone’s musical tastes.

A Hard Knock Life is in many ways the ‘sound track’ of Jonathon's life and career, and will be a very special evening of great music, and just the tonic we all need at present. So be prepared for some laughs as well as a few tears, and even a good old fashioned sing-a-long!
